Purple orchids are popular for their elegant blooms and symbolism of admiration, royalty, and respect. Most purple orchids sold as houseplants are Phalaenopsis (moth orchids), though Cattleya, Dendrobium, and Vanda also come in stunning purple varieties.

🌿 Basic Care Guide (Easy & Reliable)

☀️ Light

• Bright, indirect light is ideal

• Near an east or north-facing window works best

• Too much sun = yellow or scorched leaves

💧 Water

• Water once every 7–10 days

• Let the potting mix dry slightly between watering

• Never let roots sit in water (this causes root rot)

• Tip: Water in the morning

🌡️ Temperature & Humidity

• Ideal temperature: 18–27°C (65–80°F)

• Loves humidity: 50–70%

• Use a pebble tray or humidifier if air is dry

🌱 Potting Medium

• Use orchid bark mix, not soil

• Clear pots help you see root health (green = healthy)

🌼 Fertilizer

• Use orchid fertilizer at ¼–½ strength

• Feed every 2–3 weeks during growth

• Skip fertilizer when not actively growing

🌸 Blooming & Reblooming

• Blooms can last 2–4 months

• After flowers fall:

• Cut the flower spike above a node (for Phalaenopsis)

• Or cut at the base if spike turns brown

• Cooler night temps (by ~5°C / 10°F) help trigger new blooms

🚨 Common Problems

• Wrinkled leaves → underwatering or root issues

• Yellow leaves → too much light or natural aging

• No blooms → not enough light or temperature change

💜 Fun Facts

• Purple orchids are often gifted as symbols of luxury and admiration

• Orchids can live 10–15 years or more with proper care

• Some purple orchids change shade depending on light and temperature
